Hadith 241

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform Tahajjud, he would supplicate: "O Allah! All types of praise are for You alone." Then the narrator mentioned the hadith similar to the previous one.

Benefits:
From the aforementioned ahadith, it is understood that when one rises for the prayer of Tahajjud, one should recite the above-mentioned supplication. This is a very comprehensive supplication which encompasses the principles of faith, the foundation of religion, and the realities of Islam. In it, praise and glorification of Allah Dhul-Jalal is offered, and intercession is sought through the acknowledgment of servitude. Furthermore, in this hadith, the Most Beautiful Names (Asma’ al-Husna) of Allah, the Lord of Might, are mentioned: “Nūr al-samāwāt wa al-arḍ” (The Light of the heavens and the earth), “Qayyim al-samāwāt wa al-arḍ” (The Sustainer of the heavens and the earth), “Rabb al-samāwāt wa al-arḍ” (The Lord of the heavens and the earth), “Al-Haqq” (The Truth), and “Ilāh” (The God).
