It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spent one night performing Tahajjud. When morning came, he said: "May Allah have mercy on so-and-so, how many verses he reminded me of which I had been made to forget."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: Shaykh Abu Ammar Umar Farooq Saeedi hafizahullah writes that Imam Isma'il states: The forgetting of the Qur'an by the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam can occur in two ways: one is temporary and the other is permanent. Temporary forgetfulness has been naturally placed in the dispositions of the children of Adam. In this, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is also included. Upon forgetting the number of units (rak‘ahs) in prayer, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((INNAMA ANA BASHARUN ANSA KAMA TANSAWN)) (Sahih Bukhari, al-Salat, no. 401; Muslim, no. 574) ... “I am a human being; just as you forget, I also forget.”
And this type of forgetfulness is remedied—sometimes on its own and sometimes when reminded by another—and Allah ‘azza wa jall has taken the responsibility of preserving the Qur'an. The Divine statement is: ﴿INNA NAHNU NAZZALNA AL-DHIKRA WA INNA LAHU LAHAFIZUN﴾ () (al-Hijr: 9) “Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its Guardian.”
The second type of forgetfulness is that the memorization of verses is completely removed from your (the Prophet’s) chest. This is a type and form of abrogation (naskh). The statement of Allah the Exalted is: ﴿SANUQRI’UKA FALA TANSA () ILLA MA SHA’ ALLAH INNAHU﴾ () (al-A‘la: 6,7) ... “We will make you recite, and you will not forget—except what Allah wills.”
