Hadith 228

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Eid prayers, then delivered the sermon. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) also led the prayer in the same manner and then delivered the sermon. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also led the prayer in the same manner, then delivered the sermon, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) also led the prayer in the same manner, then delivered the sermon. There was neither Adhan nor Iqamah in it. Mu’ammal narrated: We will say that all these noble companions led the Eid prayers without Adhan or Iqamah.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
➊ It is understood from the mentioned hadith that the sermon (khutbah) should be delivered after the Eid prayer, and giving the sermon before the Eid prayer is contrary to the Sunnah. This is precisely why, when Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (radi Allahu anhu) saw Marwan delivering the sermon before the prayer, he said: "O Marwan! You have opposed the Sunnah." (Bukhari, no. 956; Sunan Abi Dawud, no. 1140)
➋ ... It is also understood that there is neither adhan (call to prayer) nor iqamah (second call) for the Eid prayers. (Tawdih al-Ahkam: 3/41)
