Hadith 202

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: Allah has, through the tongue of your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), made obligatory the prayer of residence as four rak‘ahs, the prayer of travel as two rak‘ahs, and the prayer of fear as one rak‘ah.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
It is understood that during travel, performing two units (rak‘ahs) is obligatory, and in a state of fear, performing one unit (rak‘ah) is obligatory.
Salat al-Khawf refers to the prayer that is performed in a state of fear (i.e., during battle). This is when the Muslim army is facing the disbelievers. In the aforementioned hadith, it is stated that in a state of fear, one unit (rak‘ah) is obligatory. This refers to the minimum requirement. In addition to this, performing more units is also established. As is found in Sahih al-Bukhari: The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) led a group of his Companions in two units (rak‘ahs) of the prayer of fear, then gave the salutation (salam), then led another group in two units (rak‘ahs) and gave the salutation (salam). (Bukhari, no. 4136; Sunan al-Nasa’i, no. 1552)
