Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports in a marfu‘ narration that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There are two greedy ones, the greed of neither of them ends: the one who is greedy for seeking knowledge, his greed does not end; and the one who is greedy for seeking wealth, his greed also does not end.”

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that the greed of the seeker of knowledge and the seeker of the world never ends, but there is a great difference between the two. Because the seeker of knowledge advances for the pleasure of Allah. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud radi Allahu anhu that two types of people are never satisfied: One is the possessor of knowledge and the other is the possessor of the world, and they can never be equal in rank, because the possessor of knowledge excels greatly in seeking the pleasure of the Lord, the Most Merciful, while the possessor of the world excels greatly in rebellion. Then he recited the following verses of the Noble Qur'an: «كَلَّاإِنَّالْإِنْسَانَلَيَطْغَىٰ ٭ أَنْرَآهُاسْتَغْنَى»[العلق : 6،7] "Never! Indeed, man transgresses when he sees himself self-sufficient." The narrator says, and he further recited this verse: «إِنَّمَايَخْشَىاللَّهَمِنْعِبَادِهِالْعُلَمَاءُ»[فاطر:28] "Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge." [سنن دارمي، رقم : 332]
Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, Himself has commanded to supplicate for an increase in knowledge: «وَقُلرَبِّزِدنيعِلمًا»[طه: 114]
