Hadith 172

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "When the iqamah for prayer is given, then there is no other prayer except the obligatory prayer."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that after the iqamah, it is not permissible to perform voluntary (nafl) or Sunnah prayers. If someone has already started them, he should break them and join the congregation.

The Hanafi scholars say: After the iqamah, the Sunnah prayers of Fajr can be performed, but if there is a risk of missing even the second rak‘ah of Fajr, then one should leave the Sunnah and join the congregation. (Sharh Muslim by al-Nawawi: 3/241)

The evidence of the Hanafis is this narration from Sunan al-Bayhaqi: “When the congregation stands, there is no prayer except the obligatory one, except for the Sunnah of Fajr.” This narration is weak.
