Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
The aforementioned hadiths establish the virtue of performing prayer in congregation. In another narration, it is reported from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((Salat al-jama‘ah tafdulu salat al-fadh bi sab‘in wa ‘ishrina darajah.)) “The congregational prayer is twenty-seven times superior to the individual prayer.” The hadith scholars have reconciled the apparent contradiction between the two types of narrations in the following manner. They say: At first, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned a virtue of twenty-five times, and then later mentioned twenty-seven times. Some have said: There is no contradiction in these numbers, because twenty-five is included within twenty-seven. Some have said: This difference may be due to the proximity or distance from the mosque; the one who comes from nearby receives twenty-five times the reward, and the one who comes from afar receives twenty-seven times the reward. Similarly, it may also be due to differences in humility, submissiveness, attentiveness, and presence of heart. (Sharh al-Nawawi: 5/151)
