Lady Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: I was beside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and when he would prostrate, my garment would touch his garment while I was menstruating.

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits:
From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that if something touches a menstruating woman (ha’idh), it does not become impure; such strictness is not present in this ummah as was the belief among the Jews. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu that among the Jews, when a woman would menstruate, they would stop eating and drinking with her and would avoid social interaction in their homes. The noble Companions asked the esteemed Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam about this, so Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: ﴿وَ یَسْئَلُوْنَکَ عَنِ الْمَحِیْضِ﴾ (: al-Baqarah 2:222). Then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “You may benefit from them in every way except for intercourse and sexual relations.” (Muslim, no. 302; Sunan Abi Dawud, no. 258)
