Rabi’ said: I heard Imam Shafi’i (may Allah have mercy on him) say: Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about a fasting person who eats, drinks, and has intercourse until the break of dawn (what is the ruling on this?). There was a respected man sitting with him who said: “What do you think if dawn breaks in the middle of the night?” So he (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “O lame one! Be silent.”

I heard from Rabi' bin Sulayman, who says: I heard from Imam Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him), who said: "Acquiring knowledge is better than voluntary prayer."

Asam said: I heard from Rabi’ bin Sulayman, when Imam Shafi’i, may Allah have mercy on him, said «اخبرني من لا اتهم», he meant Ibrahim bin Abu Yahya, and when he said «اخبرني الثقة», he meant Yahya bin Hassan.
