It is narrated from Wathilah bin Asqa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The greatest slander is that someone attributes to me something which I did not say, or that someone claims to have seen in a dream what he did not see (i.e., narrates a false dream), and that someone claims someone other than his father as his father.”

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever attributes to me something that I did not say, let him make his abode in Hell."

Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that he ﷺ said: "Whoever attributes a lie to me, a house will be built for him in Hell."

It is narrated from Asid bin Abi Asid, who narrates from his mother, that she asked Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him): "What is it with you that you do not narrate hadiths from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as others do?" She says that Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever deliberately attributes a lie to me, let him prepare his place in the Hellfire." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was saying this while moving his hand on the ground.

It is narrated from Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Relate (incidents) from the Children of Israel, there is no harm in it, and narrate hadiths from me, but do not attribute lies to me."
