Hadith 1776
حَدَّثَنِي الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ: أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: قَدِّمُوا قُرَيْشًا وَلَا تَقَدَّمُوهَا وَتَعَلَّمُوا مِنْهَا وَلَا تَعَالَمُوهَا أَوْ وَلَا تُعَلِّمُوهَا، يَشُكُّ ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ.
It is narrated from Ibn Shihab that it reached him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Give precedence to the Quraysh and do not put yourselves before them; learn from them and do not compete with them in knowledge, or do not teach them." Ibn Abi Fudayk is uncertain about these words.
Hadith 1777
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ: أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، وَابْنَ شِهَابٍ، يَقُولَانِ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "مَنْ أَهَانَ قُرَيْشًا أَهَانَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ" .
It is narrated from Hakeem bin Abi Hakeem that he heard from Umar bin Abdul Aziz and Ibn Shihab, both of whom said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever disgraces the Quraysh, Allah Almighty will disgrace him."
Hadith 1778
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: [ ص: 53 ] بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: "لَوْلَا أَنْ تَبْطَرَ قُرَيْشٌ لَأَخْبَرْتُهَا بِالَّذِي لَهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ" .
It is narrated from Harith bin Abdur Rahman, he said: It has reached us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If the Quraysh had not been ungrateful (and arrogant), I would have told them what (blessings) Allah has for them."
Hadith 1779
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنْ شَرِيكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِقُرَيْشٍ: "أَنْتُمْ أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِهَذَا الْأَمْرِ مَا كُنْتُمْ مَعَ الْحَقِّ إِلَّا أَنْ تَعْدِلُوا عَنْهُ فَتُلْحَوْنَ كَمَا تُلْحَى هَذِهِ الْجَرِيدَةُ" يُشِيرُ إِلَى جَرِيدَةٍ فِي يَدِهِ.
It is narrated from Ata bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said regarding the Quraysh: "You are the most deserving of this matter (caliphate) among the people as long as you adhere to the truth, except if you turn away from it, then you will be separated from it just as the bark is separated from the branch of this date-palm." The Prophet (ﷺ) was pointing to the date-palm branch he was holding in his hand.
Hadith 1780
أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ رِفَاعَةَ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَادَى: "أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا أَهْلُ أَمَانَةٍ مَنْ بَغَاهَا الْعَوَاثِرَ أَكَبَّهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى لِمَنْخِرَيْهِ" يَقُولُهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ.
It is narrated from Rifaa Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ called out: "O people! The Quraysh are the trustees (of leadership, imamate, caliphate). Whoever finds fault with them or rebels against them, Allah Almighty will cast him down on his face (into Hell)." The Prophet ﷺ repeated these words three times.
Hadith 1781
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيِّ: أَنَّ قَتَادَةَ بْنَ النُّعْمَانَ وَقَعَ بِقُرَيْشٍ، فَكَأَنَّهُ نَالَ مِنْهُمْ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "مَهْلًا يَا قَتَادَةُ، لَا تَشْتُمْ قُرَيْشًا، فَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَّكَ تَرَى مِنْهُمْ رِجَالًا أَوْ يَأْتِي مِنْهُمْ رِجَالٌ تُحَقِّرُ عَمَلَكَ مَعَ أَعْمَالِهِمْ وَفِعْلَكَ مَعَ فِعَالِهِمْ وَتَغْبِطُهُمْ إِذَا رَأَيْتُهُمْ، لَوْلَا أَنْ تَطْغَى قُرَيْشٌ لَأَخْبَرْتُهَا بِالَّذِي لَهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ" .
It is narrated from Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Harith Taimi that Qatadah bin Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) said some harsh words about the Quraysh (it seemed as if he had been hurt by them). So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “O Qatadah! Stop, be patient, do not speak ill of the Quraysh, for indeed, perhaps you will see among them such people that, compared to their deeds, you will consider your own deeds insignificant, and compared to their actions, you will consider your own actions few, and when you see them, you will envy them. If the Quraysh had not shown arrogance (ingratitude), I would have told them what Allah has in store for them (in Paradise).”
Hadith 1782
أَخْبَرَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ بِإِسْنَادٍ لَا أَحْفَظُهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي قُرَيْشٍ شَيْئًا مِنَ الْخَيْرِ لَا أَحْفَظُهُ، قَالَ: "شِرَارُ قُرَيْشٍ خِيَارُ شِرَارِ النَّاسِ" . أَخْرَجَ السَّبْعَةَ الْأَحَادِيثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْأَشْرِبَةِ وَفَضَائِلِ قُرَيْشٍ، وَهِيَ أَوَّلُ مَا فِيهِ.
It is narrated from Ibn Abi Dhi’b (he mentioned the chain of narration but I could not remember it) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said something good about the Quraysh (which I could not remember), and said: "Even the bad people of Quraysh are like the good people among (other) bad people."
