It is narrated from Mujahid and Hasan (may Allah have mercy on them) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: "A believer will not be killed in retaliation for a disbeliever."

It is narrated from Abu Juhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I asked Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), "Do you have anything from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ apart from the Qur'an?" He replied: "By Him who split the grain and created the soul, we have nothing except the understanding that Allah gives to a servant in His Book, and what is in this scroll." I asked, "What is in this scroll?" He said: "The rulings of blood money, the rulings of freeing captives, and that no Muslim will be killed in retaliation for a disbeliever." In another place it is mentioned: "No believer will be killed in retaliation for a disbeliever."

Abu Juhaifah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that I asked Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), "Do you have anything from the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ besides the Qur'an?" He replied, "By Him who split the grain and created the soul, there is nothing except the understanding which a man is given of the Qur'an, and what is in this scroll." I asked, "What is in the scroll?" He said, "The rulings of blood money, the commands regarding the freeing of captives, and that no believer should be killed in retaliation for a disbeliever."

It is narrated from Ata, Tawus, Mujahid, and Hasan (may Allah have mercy on them) that the Prophet ﷺ said in his sermon in the year of the conquest of Makkah: "A Muslim will not be killed in retaliation for a disbeliever." It was asked whether this narration is Mursal, so I said: Yes.

It is narrated from Zuhri that the son of Shas Jazami killed a man from among the Nabateans of Syria. When this matter was brought before Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), he ordered the killer to be killed. Then Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) and other companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) spoke with Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and prevented him from carrying out the killing. He then set the blood money at one thousand dinars.

It is narrated from Saeed bin Musayyib, may Allah have mercy on him, that he said: "The blood money of every Mu'ahid during their covenant was one thousand dinars."
