It is narrated from Abdullah bin Sa’d, the freed slave of Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Arabs who are Christians are not among the People of the Book, and the animals they slaughter are not lawful for us, and I will not leave them until they accept Islam or I will strike their necks."

Sa’d al-Falaha, the freed slave of ‘Umar, or Ibn Sa’d al-Falaha narrates that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Arabs are not among the People of the Book Christians; the animals they slaughter are not lawful for us, and I will not leave them until they accept Islam or I fight them.”

It is narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "Do not eat the animals slaughtered by the Christians of Banu Taghlib, because they have not adhered to any aspect of their religion except drinking wine." (That is, they have abandoned the rest of its practices.)

It is narrated from Ubaidah Salmani (may Allah have mercy on him) that he stated: Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do not eat the animals slaughtered by the Arab Christians of Banu Taghlib, because they have not practiced anything from Christianity or their religion except drinking wine."

It is narrated from Ikrimah, may Allah have mercy on him, that Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, was asked about the animals slaughtered by the Christians of Arabia. He spoke about their permissibility and recited this verse: "Whoever among you takes them as friends, then surely he is one of them." (__QUR_N__ Al-Ma'idah: 51) However, our teacher did not mention Ikrimah as an intermediary, and it is not established that Thawri, may Allah have mercy on him, met Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both.
