It is narrated from Alqamah bin Nazlah that Abu Sufyan bin Harb (may Allah be pleased with him) stood in the courtyard of his house, struck his foot, and said: "The middle land, indeed, where is the land for the land?" So Ibn Farqad Aslami thought that I had not recognized my right over his right, therefore for me is the whiteness of Marwah (i.e., the uncultivated land) and for him its blackness (i.e., the cultivated land). When this matter reached Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "The place other than the embankments is for no one. Indeed, reviving barren land (making it cultivable), whether in the form of cultivation, digging a well, or raising embankments, is like invalidating possession, that is, it will be treated in the same way as something prohibited from being possessed."
