Hadith 1294
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مَوْلَى آلِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: يَنْكِحُ الْعَبْدُ امْرَأَتَيْنِ وَيُطَلِّقُ تَطْلِيقَتَيْنِ، وَتَعْتَدُّ الْأَمَةُ حَيْضَتَيْنِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَحِيضُ فَشَهْرَيْنِ أَوْ شَهْرًا وَنِصْفًا. قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: وَكَانَ ثِقَةً.
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Utbah that Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "A slave may marry two women, and he will give only two divorces, and the waiting period (‘iddah) of a slave woman will be two menstrual cycles; if she does not menstruate, then the waiting period will be two or one and a half months."
Hadith 1295
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَوْسٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ [ ص: 120 ] مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ: أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ: لَوِ اسْتَطَعْتُ لَجَعَلْتُهَا حَيْضَةً وَنِصْفًا، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: فَاجْعَلْهَا شَهْرًا وَنِصْفًا. فَسَكَتَ عُمَرُ.
It is narrated from a man of Thaqif that he heard Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: "If I had the power, I would make her waiting period one and a half menstruations." Upon this, a man said: "You may make her waiting period one and a half months," so Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) remained silent.
Hadith 1296
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ: أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي أُمِّ الْوَلَدِ يُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا سَيِّدُهَا، قَالَ: تَعْتَدُّ بِحَيْضَةٍ. أَخْرَجَ الثَّلَاثَةَ الْأَحَادِيثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْعِدَدِ.
It is narrated from Nafi‘ that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "An umm walad whose master passes away will observe ‘iddah for one menstrual cycle."
