Hadith 1220
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ، أَظُنُّهُ، عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيَّرَ غُلَامًا بَيْنَ أَبِيهِ وَأُمِّهِ.
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a boy the choice to select either his father or his mother.
Hadith 1221
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْجَرْمِيِّ قَالَ: خَيَّرَنِي عَلِيٌّ بَيْنَ أُمِّي وَعَمِّي، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِأَخٍ لِي أَصْغَرَ مِنِّي: وَهَذَا أَيْضًا لَوْ قَدْ بَلَغَ مَبْلَغَ هَذَا لَخَيَّرْتُهُ.
Yunus bin Abdullah Al-Jarmi narrated that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave me the choice to choose between my mother and my uncle, then regarding my younger brother he said: "He would also have the same choice if he had reached his (i.e., my) age."
Hadith 1222
قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ: قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ مِثْلَهُ. وَقَالَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ: وَكُنْتُ ابْنَ سَبْعِ أَوْ ثَمَانِ سِنِينَ. أَخْرَجَ الثَّلَاثَةَ الْأَحَادِيثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ عِشْرَةِ النِّسَاءِ.
It is narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) through the chain of Yunus, from ‘Ammarah, similarly, and in this hadith it is stated: "At that time, I was seven or eight years old."
