Abdur Rahman bin Qasim narrated from his father, who said: When a marriage proposal (khitbah) was made for a woman from the family of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and she was present, when only the marriage contract (nikah) remained, she would say to one of the men from the household: "Marry her off," because a woman cannot be the guardian (wali) in the marriage contract.

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "No woman should act as a guardian to marry off another woman; indeed, an immoral woman marries herself off."
