Ikrimah—the freed slave of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them)—narrates that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) hunted a badger with a small spear, and for its compensation, he decreed a ram.

It is narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the verdict of a goat as compensation in the case of hunting a young deer.

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ruled that for a hare, a one-year-old lamb or kid should be given, and for killing a jerboa, a four-month-old kid should be given as compensation.

It is narrated from Tariq bin Shihab who said: "We set out for Hajj, and one of us, whose name was Arbad, hunted a deer and wounded its back. We came to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and Arbad asked him about it. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Arbad, you yourself decide (what compensation you should give).' He said: 'O Commander of the Faithful! You are more knowledgeable and better than me.' Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: 'I order you to decide in this matter; I did not order you to describe my qualities.' So Arbad said: 'In my opinion, its compensation is a goat that is fit for grazing.' Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said (confirming): 'That is its compensation.'"

It is narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) issued the ruling that as compensation: for a badger, a ram; for a young deer, a goat; for a rabbit, a one-year-old lamb or kid; and for a jerboa, a four-month-old kid should be given.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he gave the verdict of giving a four-month-old goat kid in (the tribe of) Yarbu'.

It is narrated from Abu Safar that Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) ruled that as compensation for killing an animal resembling a lizard, a kid from the goats should be given.
