Abu Humayd Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed a man from the tribe of Asad, whose name was Ibn al-Lubtiyyah, as a collector of charity. When he returned, he said: This is your wealth, and this was given to me as a gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the pulpit and said: “What is the matter with an agent whom we send for some of our tasks, and he comes and says: This is your (public) wealth and this was given to me as a gift? Why did he not sit in the house of his father or mother and see whether he would be given gifts there or not? By Him in Whose hand is my soul, whoever takes anything unlawfully from this (charity) will come on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on his neck. If it is a camel, it will be groaning; if it is a cow, it will be mooing; and if it is a goat, it will be bleating.” Then he raised his blessed hands until we saw the whiteness of his armpits and said: “O Allah! Have I conveyed Your command? O Allah! Have I conveyed Your command?”

It is narrated from Tawoos, may Allah have mercy on him, that he states: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed Ubadah bin Samit, may Allah be pleased with him, as a collector of charity, and said: "O Abu al-Waleed! Fear Allah! Lest you come on the Day of Resurrection with a camel on your neck, and it is groaning, or a cow that is mooing, or a goat that is bleating." Ubadah bin Samit, may Allah be pleased with him, said: O Messenger of Allah! Is it really like that? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Yes, by Him in Whose hand is my soul, except for the one upon whom Allah has mercy." Ubadah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: By Him Who has sent you with the truth, I will never again become an agent over even two things.
