It is narrated from Tawoos Yamani (may Allah have mercy on him) that Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) took a one-year-old calf (which had entered the second year) from thirty cows, and for every forty, he took a two-year-old calf. When he was given one of lesser age, he refused to take it and said: "I have not heard anything about this from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ); (I will not take it) until I ask the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about it." Tawoos says that before Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) could come (to Madinah), the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) passed away.
