Hadith 623
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ غَزِيَّةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَمَانَ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسِيرُ بَعْدَ أَنْ أَضْحَى إِذْ هُوَ [ ص: 107 ] بِجَمَاعَةٍ فِي ظِلِّ شَجَرَةٍ، فَقَالَ: "مَا هَذِهِ الْجَمَاعَةُ؟" . قَالُوا: رَجُلٌ صَائِمٌ، أَجْهَدَهُ الصَّوْمُ أَوْ كَلِمَةً نَحْوَهَا. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "لَيْسَ مِنَ الْبِرِّ الصَّوْمُ فِي السَّفَرِ" .
Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) during the expedition of Tabuk, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would travel during the forenoon. Suddenly, he (ﷺ) saw a group of people under the shade of a tree, so he asked: "What is this group?" The people said: There is a fasting person among them whom fasting has put in difficulty (or he said something similar). So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Fasting while traveling is not an act of righteousness."
Hadith 624
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: "لَيْسَ الْبِرُّ الصِّيَامَ فِي السَّفَرِ" . أَخْرَجَ الْحَدِيثَيْنِ مِنْ كِتَابِ اخْتِلَافِ الْحَدِيثِ.
It is narrated from Ka'b bin Asim Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fasting during travel is not a good deed."
