It is narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said four takbirs over the deceased and recited Surah Al-Fatihah after the first takbir.

Talha bin Abdullah bin Awf narrates that I offered the funeral prayer behind Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), and he recited Surah Al-Fatihah. When he finished with salam, I inquired about it, and he replied: "It is Sunnah and the truth."

Abu Umamah bin Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that one of the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) informed him that the Sunnah in the funeral prayer is that the imam says the takbeer, then quietly recites Surah Al-Fatihah in his heart after the first takbeer, then sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), and then sincerely supplicates for the deceased. In the remaining takbeers, he does not recite anything, and then quietly says the salam in his heart.

It is narrated from Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would also say salam at the end of the funeral prayer.
