Hadith 577
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ وَغَيْرُهُ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ كَانُوا يَمْشُونَ أَمَامَ الْجِنَازَةِ.
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them) used to walk in front of the funeral procession.
Hadith 578
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْهُدَيْرِ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ رَأَى عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقْدُمُ النَّاسَ أَمَامَ جِنَازَةِ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ.
It is narrated from Rabi'ah bin Abdullah bin Hudair that he reports he saw Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) leading people ahead of the funeral of Zainab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her).
Hadith 579
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى السَّائِبِ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ وَعُبَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ يَمْشِيَانِ أَمَامَ الْجِنَازَةِ، فَتَقَدَّمَا فَجَلَسَا يَتَحَدَّثَانِ، فَلَمَّا حَاذَتْ بِهِمَا قَامَا. أَخْرَجَ الثَّلَاثَةَ الْأَحَادِيثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْجَنَائِزِ.
Ubaid, the freed slave of Saib, narrates: I saw Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Ubaid bin Umair (may Allah be pleased with him); both of them would walk in front of the funeral, go ahead and sit down, and talk. When the funeral would come near, both of them would stand up.
