Hadith 558
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ السَّخْتِيَانِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُنَّ فِي غَسْلِ ابْنَتِهِ: "اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ [ ص: 79 ] خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ، وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا، أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ" .
It is narrated from Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said at the time of giving his daughter a bath: "Give her a bath three or five times, and if you deem it appropriate, you may do so even more than that. Mix lote tree leaves in the bathing water, and at the end, use camphor or something of camphor."
Hadith 559
أَخْبَرَنَا الثِّقَةُ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانٍ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةِ، قَالَتْ: ضَفَرْنَا شَعَرَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَاصِيَتَهَا وَقَرْنَيْهَا ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُونٍ فَأَلْقَيْنَاهَا خَلْفَهَا.
Umm ‘Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We braided the hair of the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, making three plaits—one with the hair at the front and two with the hair on either side—and then placed them behind her.
Hadith 560
أَخْبَرَنَا بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غُسِّلَ ثَلَاثًا.
It is narrated from Abu Ja'far that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was bathed three times.
Hadith 561
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غُسِّلَ فِي قَمِيصٍ.
Ja'far bin Muhammad narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given ghusl (ritual washing) in a shirt.
Hadith 562
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ: أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ غُسِّلَ وَكُفِّنَ وَصُلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ.
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was given ghusl, was shrouded, and the funeral prayer was also offered for him.
Hadith 563
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: لَوِ اسْتَقْبَلْنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا مَا اسْتَدْبَرْنَا مَا غَسَّلَ [ ص: 81 ] رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا نِسَاؤُهُ.
It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she states: If we had thought beforehand what we thought later, then no one except the wives of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would have given him the ritual bath.
Hadith 564
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ مُحَمَّدٍ بِنْتِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهَا أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ: أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْصَتْ أَنْ تُغَسِّلَهَا إِذَا مَاتَتْ هِيَ وَعَلِيٌّ فَغَسَّلَتْهَا هِيَ وَعَلِيٌّ. أَخْرَجَ السَّبْعَةَ الْأَحَادِيثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْجَنَائِزِ.
It is narrated from Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) that Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), made a will that when she passed away, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) should give her the ritual bath (ghusl). When she passed away, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave her the ritual bath.
