Hadith 409
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ السَّبَّاقِ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي جُمُعَةٍ مِنَ الْجُمَعِ: "يَا مَعْشَرَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، إِنَّ هَذَا يَوْمٌ جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ عِيدًا لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ فَاغْتَسِلُوا، وَمَنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ طِيبٌ فَلَا يَضُرُّهُ أَنْ يَمَسَّ مِنْهُ وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ" .
It is narrated from Ibn al-Sabbaq that the Prophet ﷺ said in a Friday sermon: "O assembly of Muslims! This day of Friday, Allah Almighty has appointed as a day of Eid for the Muslims, so (whoever comes for Friday) should perform ghusl, and if anyone has perfume, there is no harm in using it, and be sure to use the miswak."
Hadith 410
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ [ ص: 10 ] قَالَ: "مَنْ جَاءَ مِنْكُمُ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ" .
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever among you comes for the Friday (prayer), he should perform ghusl (ritual bath)."
Hadith 411
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ وَسُفْيَانُ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: غُسْلُ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاجِبٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُحْتَلِمٍ.
It is narrated from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "The Friday bath is obligatory upon every adult."
Hadith 412
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّاسُ عُمَّالَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ، وَكَانُوا يَرُوحُونَ بِهَيْئَاتِهِمْ، فَقِيلَ لَهُمْ: لَوِ اغْتَسَلْتُمْ.
Narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: People used to work hard and would come (to the mosque) in that state. So it was said to them: If you perform ghusl, it would be better.
Hadith 413
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسْجِدَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ، وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَخْطُبُ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: أَيَّةُ سَاعَةٍ هَذِهِ؟ فَقَالَ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، انْقَلَبْتُ مِنَ السُّوقِ فَسَمِعْتُ النِّدَاءَ، فَمَا زِدْتُ عَلَى أَنْ تَوَضَّأْتُ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: الْوُضُوءَ أَيْضًا! وَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا بِالْغُسْلِ.
It is narrated from Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) that he states: A man from among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered the mosque on Friday while Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was delivering the sermon. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "What time is this?" He replied: "O Commander of the Faithful! I returned from the market, heard the call to prayer, and performed only ablution." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Only ablution (i.e., you sufficed with ablution) while you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to command us to perform ghusl (ritual bath)."
Hadith 414
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسْجِدَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَخْطُبُ، فَقَالَ: أَيَّةُ سَاعَةٍ هَذِهِ؟ قَالَ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، انْقَلَبْتُ مِنَ السُّوقِ فَسَمِعْتُ النِّدَاءَ فَمَا زِدْتُ عَلَى أَنْ تَوَضَّأْتُ. فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: وَالْوُضُوءَ أَيْضًا، وَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْغُسْلِ.
Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man from among the noble companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) entered the mosque on Friday while Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was delivering the sermon. So (Umar, may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "What time is this?" He replied: "O Commander of the Faithful! I came from the market, heard the call to prayer, and could do nothing except perform ablution." So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Only ablution, when you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us to perform ghusl."
Hadith 415
أَخْبَرَنَا الثِّقَةُ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ مِثْلَ مَعْنَى حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ، وَسَمَّى الدَّاخِلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ بِغَيْرِ غُسْلٍ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ. أَخْرَجَ الْأَوَّلَ مِنْ كِتَابِ إِيجَابِ الْجُمُعَةِ، وَإِلَى آخِرِ الرَّابِعِ مِنَ الْجُزْءِ الثَّانِي مِنَ اخْتِلَافِ الْحَدِيثِ وَالْخَامِسَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْوُضُوءِ وَالسَّادِسَ وَالسَّابِعَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الرِّسَالَةِ.
Salim narrates from his father Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) the hadith similar to that of Malik, and he mentioned that the one who entered (the mosque) on that Friday was Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him).
