It is narrated from Ibn al-Sabbaq that the Prophet ﷺ said in a Friday sermon: "O assembly of Muslims! This day of Friday, Allah Almighty has appointed as a day of Eid for the Muslims, so (whoever comes for Friday) should perform ghusl, and if anyone has perfume, there is no harm in using it, and be sure to use the miswak."

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever among you comes for the Friday (prayer), he should perform ghusl (ritual bath)."

It is narrated from Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) that he states: A man from among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered the mosque on Friday while Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was delivering the sermon. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "What time is this?" He replied: "O Commander of the Faithful! I returned from the market, heard the call to prayer, and performed only ablution." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Only ablution (i.e., you sufficed with ablution) while you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to command us to perform ghusl (ritual bath)."

Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man from among the noble companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) entered the mosque on Friday while Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was delivering the sermon. So (Umar, may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "What time is this?" He replied: "O Commander of the Faithful! I came from the market, heard the call to prayer, and could do nothing except perform ablution." So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Only ablution, when you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us to perform ghusl."

Salim narrates from his father Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) the hadith similar to that of Malik, and he mentioned that the one who entered (the mosque) on that Friday was Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him).
