Hadith 353
حَدَّثَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَابَاهَ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: ذَكَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الْقَصْرَ فِي الْخَوْفِ فَأَنَّى الْقَصْرُ فِي غَيْرِ الْخَوْفِ؟ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: عَجِبْتُ مِمَّا عَجِبْتَ مِنْهُ، فَسَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: "صَدَقَةٌ تَصَدَّقَ اللَّهُ بِهَا عَلَيْكُمْ، فَاقْبَلُوا صَدَقَتَهُ" .
It is narrated from Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I asked Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): "Allah Almighty has mentioned shortening (the prayer) in a state of fear, but where is the shortening besides fear?" Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "I was also surprised by the same thing that surprised you. So I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: 'It is a charity that Allah has given to you, so accept His charity.'"
Hadith 354
أَخْبَرَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، وَعَبْدُ الْمَجِيدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ أَبِي رَوَّادٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ [ ص: 330 ] جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَابَاهَ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: إِنَّمَا قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: أَنْ تَقْصُرُوا مِنَ الصَّلاةِ إِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَنْ يَفْتِنَكُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا [النِّسَاءِ: 101] فَقَدْ أَمِنَ النَّاسُ؟ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: عَجِبْتُ مِمَّا عَجِبْتَ مِنْهُ، فَسَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: "صَدَقَةٌ تَصَدَّقَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِهَا عَلَيْكُمْ، فَاقْبَلُوا صَدَقَتَهُ" .
It is narrated from Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I asked Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): "Indeed, Allah Almighty has said: 'Shorten the prayers if you fear that the disbelievers may harm you' [النساء: 101] but now people are in safety?" So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I was also surprised at what you are surprised at, so I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he (ﷺ) said: 'It is a charity, which Allah has given to you, so accept His charity.'"
Hadith 355
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "خِيَارُكُمُ الَّذِينَ إِذَا سَافَرُوا قَصَرُوا الصَّلَاةَ، وَأَفْطَرُوا" أَوْ قَالَ: "لَمْ يَصُومُوا" . أَخْرَجَ الْأَوَّلَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْأَمَالِي وَالثَّانِيَ وَالثَّالِثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ اسْتِقْبَالِ الْقِبْلَةِ.
It is narrated from Ibn al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) that he stated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The best among you are those who, when they travel, shorten the prayer and break the fast," or he said: "those who do not fast."
