Hadith 346
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ: أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُسَافِرُ مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ الْبَرِيدَ فَلَا يَقْصُرُ الصَّلَاةَ.
It is narrated from Nafi‘ that when he traveled a distance of one barid with Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he (Ibn ‘Umar) would not shorten the prayer during that journey.
Hadith 347
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ: أَتُقْصَرُ الصَّلَاةُ إِلَى عَرَفَةَ؟ فَقَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنْ إِلَى عُسْفَانَ وَإِلَى جُدَّةَ وَإِلَى الطَّائِفِ.
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he was asked: "Will the prayer be shortened until (reaching) Arafah?" He replied: "No, rather (it will be shortened) in the case of travel to Asfan, Jeddah, and Taif."
Hadith 348
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ رَكِبَ إِلَى ذَاتِ النَّصَبِ، فَقَصَرَ الصَّلَاةَ فِي مَسِيرَةِ ذَلِكَ. قَالَ مَالِكٌ: وَبَيْنَ ذَاتِ النُّصْبِ وَالْمَدِينَةِ أَرْبَعُ بُرُدٍ.
It is narrated from Salim bin Abdullah that Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) traveled towards "Dhat al-Nusub," and during this journey, he shortened the prayer. Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) says: There is a distance of four barid between Madinah and Dhat al-Nusub.
Hadith 349
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ: أَنَّهُ رَكِبَ إِلَى رِيمٍ فَقَصَرَ الصَّلَاةَ فِي مَسِيرِهِ ذَلِكَ. قَالَ مَالِكٌ: وَذَلِكَ نَحْوٌ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةِ بُرُدٍ.
It is narrated from Salim bin Abdullah that Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) rode towards Raym (the name of a place near Madinah), and he performed shortened prayers on this route. Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) says: This too is located four burud from Madinah.
Hadith 350
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَقْصُرُ إِلَى عَرَفَةَ؟ قَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنْ إِلَى جُدَّةَ وَعُسْفَانَ وَالطَّائِفِ، وَإِنْ قَدِمْتَ عَلَى أَهْلٍ أَوْ مَاشِيَةٍ فَأَتِمَّ، قَالَ: وَهَذَا قَوْلُ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، وَبِهِ نَأْخُذُ.
It is narrated from Ata bin Abi Rabah (may Allah have mercy on him) that he states: I asked Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), "Should I shorten the prayer until Arafah?" He replied, "No, rather until Jeddah, Usfan, and Taif; and if you come with your family or on foot, then pray in full." Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says: And this is also the statement of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and we will act upon it.
Hadith 351
قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ فِي كِتَابِهِ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ [ ص: 329 ] ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: تُقْصَرُ الصَّلَاةُ إِلَى عُسْفَانَ وَإِلَى الطَّائِفِ وَإِلَى جُدَّةَ وَهَذَا كُلُّهُ مِنْ مَكَّةَ عَلَى أَرْبَعَةِ بُرُدٍ وَنَحْوٍ مِنْ ذَلِكَ.
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: Prayer will be shortened up to ‘Usfan, Ta’if, and Jeddah. And all these places are at a distance of four barid from Makkah, and similarly, prayer will be shortened in places at such a distance.
Hadith 352
قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ: أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ إِلَى ذَاتِ النُّصْبِ فَقَصَرَ الصَّلَاةَ. قَالَ مَالِكٌ: وَهِيَ أَرْبَعَةُ بُرُدٍ. أَخْرَجَ الْأَرْبَعَةَ الْأَحَادِيثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ اسْتِقْبَالِ الْقِبْلَةِ، وَالْخَامِسَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْأَمَالِي، وَالسَّادِسَ وَالسَّابِعَ مِنْ كِتَابِ اخْتِلَافِ عَلِيٍّ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ مِمَّا لَمْ يَسْمَعِ الرَّبِيعُ مِنَ الشَّافِعِيِّ.
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he went towards Dhat al-Nusub and performed shortened (qasr) prayer. Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) says: And this is at a distance of four barid.
