It is narrated from Ata bin Yasar that a man recited a verse of prostration before the Prophet ﷺ and performed prostration, so the Noble Prophet ﷺ also performed prostration. Then another person recited a verse of prostration before him, but the Prophet ﷺ did not perform prostration. That man said: "O Messenger of Allah! So-and-so recited a verse of prostration before you and you performed prostration, but when I recited it, you did not." The Prophet ﷺ said: "You were the imam; if you had performed prostration, I would have performed prostration as well."

It is narrated from Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he recited Surah An-Najm before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace be upon him) did not perform prostration in it.

It is narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he did not perform prostration in Surah (Sad) and said: This is merely the mention of a prophet's repentance.
