Hadith 317
حَدَّثَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَهَبَ إِلَى بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ لِيُصْلِحَ بَيْنَهُمْ، وَحَانَتْ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ، فَأَتَى الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَتَقَدَّمَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَكْثَرَ النَّاسُ التَّصْفِيقَ، وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لَا يَلْتَفِتُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرَ النَّاسُ التَّصْفِيقَ، الْتَفَتَ فَرَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ كَمَا أَنْتَ، فَرَفَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَدَيْهِ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى عَلَى مَا أَمَرَهُ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ اسْتَأْخَرَ وَتَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ: "مَا لِي رَأَيْتُكُمْ أَكْثَرْتُمُ التَّصْفِيقَ؟ مَنْ نَابَهُ شَيْءٌ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَلْيُسَبِّحْ، فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا سَبَّحَ الْتُفِتَ إِلَيْهِ فَإِنَّمَا التَّصْفِيقُ لِلنِّسَاءِ" .
It is narrated from Sahl bin Sa’d Al-Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to the people of Banu Amr bin Awf to make peace among them. The time for the Asr prayer came, and the muezzin came to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped forward to lead the prayer. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) arrived, and the people began to clap in abundance. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) would not turn to any side during the prayer, but when the people started clapping excessively, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) turned and saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) signaled to him to remain in his place, but Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his hands and thanked Allah for the honor that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had granted him the leadership of the prayer. Then he stepped back, and the Prophet (ﷺ) moved forward and led the prayer. When the prayer was finished, he said to the people: “What is the matter? I saw you clapping a lot. If something arises in the prayer, one should say ‘Subhan Allah’. When he says it, attention will be paid to him, and clapping is for women.”
Hadith 318
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: "التَّسْبِيحُ لِلرِّجَالِ وَالتَّصْفِيقُ لِلنِّسَاءِ" .
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For men, it is to say 'Subhan Allah', and for women, it is to clap."
Hadith 319
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَهَبَ إِلَى بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ لِيُصْلِحَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَحَانَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، فَجَاءَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ: أَتُصَلِّي لِلنَّاسِ فَأُقِيمَ؟ فَقَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَصَلَّى أَبُو بَكْرٍ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالنَّاسُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، فَتَخَلَّصَ حَتَّى وَقَفَ فِي الصَّفِّ، فَصَفَّقَ النَّاسُ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لَا يَلْتَفِتُ فِي صَلَاتِهِ، فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرَ النَّاسُ التَّصْفِيقَ، الْتَفَتَ فَرَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَنِ امْكُثْ مَكَانَكَ، فَرَفَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَدَيْهِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى عَلَى مَا أَمَرَهُ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ اسْتَأْخَرَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَتَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ، وَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ: "يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ، مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَثْبُتَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ" ؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: مَا كَانَ لِابْنِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "مَا لِي رَأَيْتُكُمْ أَكْثَرْتُمُ التَّصْفِيقَ؟ فَمَنْ نَابَهُ شَيْءٌ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَلْيُسَبِّحْ، فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا سَبَّحَ الْتُفِتَ إِلَيْهِ، وَإِنَّمَا التَّصْفِيقُ لِلنِّسَاءِ" . [ ص: 316 ] قَالَ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ، يَعْنِي: الْأَصَمَّ. أَخْرَجْتُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي هَذَا الْمَوْضِعِ، وَهُوَ مُعَادٌ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ مُخْتَلِفُ الْأَلْفَاظِ، وَفِيهِ زِيَادَةٌ وَنُقْصَانٌ. أَخْرَجَ الْحَدِيثَيْنِ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْأَمَالِي، وَالثَّالِثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْإِمَامَةِ.
It is narrated from Sahl bin Sa’d Al-Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to reconcile between the Banu Amr bin Awf. The time for prayer came, and the muezzin said to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): “Will you lead the people in prayer, and should I pronounce the iqamah?” Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Yes.” So Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) began the prayer. Meanwhile, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) arrived while the people were praying. He (ﷺ) passed through the people until he reached the first row. The people started clapping their hands. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) would not pay attention to anything during the prayer, but when the people began to clap repeatedly, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) turned and saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) signaled to him to remain in his place (and lead the prayer). Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his hands and praised Allah for the honor that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had granted him to lead the prayer, then Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped back, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) moved forward and led the prayer. When the prayer was finished, he said: “O Abu Bakr! When I instructed you, why did you not remain in your place?” Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: “It was not befitting for the son of Abu Quhafah to lead the prayer in front of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).” Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “It is strange that I saw you all clapping so much. If anyone encounters an issue during the prayer, he should say ‘Subhan Allah,’ for when he says ‘Subhan Allah,’ attention will be paid to him. And clapping is for women.”
