Hadith 281
حَدَّثَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: أَنَّ مُعَاذًا أَمَّ قَوْمَهُ فِي الْعَتَمَةِ فَافْتَتَحَ سُورَةَ الْبَقَرَةِ فَتَنَحَّى رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ فَصَلَّى، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِمُعَاذٍ: "أَفَتَّانٌ أَنْتَ، أَفَتَّانٌ أَنْتَ، اقْرَأْ سُورَةَ كَذَا وَسُورَةَ كَذَا" .
It is narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) led his people in the 'Isha prayer and began reciting Surah Al-Baqarah. A man separated himself from the congregation and prayed alone. He mentioned this to the Prophet (ﷺ), so the Prophet (ﷺ) said to Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him): "Are you one who puts people to trial? Are you one who puts people to trial? Recite such-and-such Surah."
Hadith 282
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهُ. وَقَالَ فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعَمْرٍو، فَقَالَ: هُوَ نَحْوُ هَذَا.
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he reports from the Prophet (peace be upon him) a narration similar to the previous hadith. And at the end of this hadith, it is mentioned that Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I narrated this hadith to Amr, and he said: "Yes, it is exactly like that."
Hadith 283
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: "إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ يُصَلِّي لِلنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ السَّقِيمَ وَالضَّعِيفَ، وَإِذَا كَانَ يُصَلِّي لِنَفْسِهِ فَلْيُطِلْ مَا شَاءَ" . أَخْرَجَ الثَّلَاثَةَ الْأَحَادِيثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْأَمَالِي.
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When any of you leads the prayer, he should make it light, because there are sick and elderly people in the congregation. But when he is praying alone, he may make it as long as he wishes."
