Hadith 192
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when he began the prayer, he would raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders, and when he intended to bow (ruku‘), and when he raised his head from bowing, (he would also raise his hands), and he would not raise (his hands) between the prostrations."

Hadith 193
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began the prayer, he would raise his hands up to his shoulders, and when he raised his head from bowing (ruku‘), he would raise his hands in the same manner. However, during prostrations (sujood), he (ﷺ) would not raise his hands.

Hadith 194
Nafi' narrates from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he started the prayer, he would raise his hands up to his shoulders, and when he raised his head from bowing (ruku'), he would raise both hands a little less than that.

Hadith 195
And with the same previous chain, it is narrated that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) when he started the prayer, he would raise his hands up to his shoulders, and when he rose from bowing (ruku‘), he would also raise his hands up to his shoulders in the same manner.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he stated: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), when he began the prayer, he would raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders, and when he was about to bow (ruku‘) and when he raised his head from bowing, he would do the same (raise his hands), and he would not raise his hands between the two prostrations."

Hadith 197
Wa’il bin Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he started the prayer, he would raise his hands up to his shoulders, and likewise when he bowed (for ruku‘) and when he raised his head from ruku‘ (he would also perform raf‘ al-yadayn). Wa’il (may Allah be pleased with him) says: “Then I came to him in the winter, and I saw (the noble Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, had wrapped themselves in sheets) and they would perform raf‘ al-yadayn from inside them.”

Hadith 198
It is narrated from Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), when he started the prayer, he would raise his hands. Sufyan says: Then I came to Kufa and met Yazid bin Abi Ziyad, and I heard him narrate this hadith with the addition that “then he would not return them.” I thought that this was “prompted” to him. Sufyan says: I heard Yazid narrate it in this way, then later I heard him narrate it with this addition as well, that “then he would not raise his hands.” Rabi’ bin Sulayman al-Muradi says: Imam Shafi’i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) considered Yazid to be mistaken in this hadith and said: It is as if he was prompted with this last phrase, which he adopted, and Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) did not consider Yazid to have a strong memory.
