It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade performing prayer after Asr until the sun sets, and after Fajr until the sun rises.

It is narrated from Abdullah al-Sanabaji (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the sun rises, the horns of Satan rise with it; when it ascends high, Satan separates from it. When it reaches the middle (of the sky), Satan joins it again. When the sun declines, he separates from it once more, and when it is near setting, he joins it again, and after sunset, he separates from it again. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has prohibited performing prayer at these (three) times."

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade praying at midday except on Friday, until the sun declines.

Aamir bin Mus'ab narrates that Taawoos asked Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about performing two rak'ahs after the Asr prayer, so he forbade him. Taawoos said, "I will still perform them." So Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited the verse of the Qur'an: "It is not for a believing man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) have decided a matter, to have any choice in their affair." [الاحزاب: 36]
