Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) used to perform the (obligatory) 'Isha prayer with the Prophet ﷺ, then he would lead his people, Banu Salamah, in the same prayer. Jabir bin Abdullah says that the Prophet ﷺ delayed the 'Isha prayer one night, Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) prayed with him, then returned and led his people in prayer, and began reciting Surah Al-Baqarah. A man separated himself from behind him and prayed alone. The people said to him: Have you become a hypocrite? The man said: No, but I will go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He came to you and said: O Messenger of Allah! You led the prayer late, and Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) prayed with you, then returned and led us in prayer and began with Surah Al-Baqarah. When I saw this, I separated and prayed alone, because we are farmers and work with our hands. The Prophet ﷺ turned to Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O Mu'adh! Are you a cause of trial? Are you a cause of trial? Recite such and such surahs."

In one chain of transmission of the previous narration from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), there is this addition that the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him: «سبح اسم ربك الاعلي»«والليل إذا يغشي»«والسماء والطارق» and recite similar Surahs to them. Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I said to Amr that Abu Zubair says that the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him: «سبح اسم ربك الاعلي»«والليل إذا يغشي»«والسماء والطارق» recite it, so Amr said: "Yes, it is like that."

He recited Surah Al-Fatihah, and when he began (the Surah), he said: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. (The narrator) Ayyub says, I asked: «اذا زلزلت الارض» So Nafi‘ said: (Yes) «اذا زلزلت الارض» .
