Hadith 66
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الثِّقَةُ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: كَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْتَظِرُونَ الْعِشَاءَ فَيَنَامُونَ أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: قُعُودًا حَتَّى تَخْفِقَ رُءُوسُهُمْ، ثُمَّ يُصَلُّونَ وَلَا يَتَوَضَّئُونَ.
Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would wait for the ‘Isha prayer, and due to overpowering sleep, their heads would droop while sitting, but they would perform the prayer without renewing their ablution.
Hadith 67
أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَنَامُ قَاعِدًا، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي وَلَا يَتَوَضَّأُ.
Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would fall asleep while sitting, then perform prayer and would not perform ablution.
Hadith 68
أَخْبَرَنَا الثِّقَةُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: مَنْ نَامَ مُضْطَجِعًا وَجَبَ عَلَيْهِ الْوُضُوءُ، وَمَنْ نَامَ جَالِسًا فَلَا وُضُوءَ عَلَيْهِ. أَخْرَجَ الْحَدِيثَيْنِ مِنْ كِتَابِ الْوُضُوءِ، وَالثَّالِثَ فِي كِتَابِ اخْتِلَافِ مَالِكٍ وَالشَّافِعِيِّ.
Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Whoever sleeps lying down, wudu becomes obligatory upon him, and whoever sleeps sitting, there is no wudu upon him."
