حَدَّثَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ، قَالَ: خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ كَانُوا يَدْفَعُونَ مِنْ عَرَفَةَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَغِيبَ الشَّمْسُ وَمِنَ الْمُزْدَلِفَةِ بَعْدَ أَنْ تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ حَتَّى تَكُونَ الشَّمْسُ: كَأَنَّهَا عَمَائِمُ الرِّجَالِ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ وَإِنَّا لَا نَدْفَعُ مِنْ عَرَفَةَ حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ وَنَدْفَعُ مِنَ الْمُزْدَلِفَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ هَدْيُنَا مُخَالِفٌ لِهَدْيِ أَهْلِ الْأَوْثَانِ وَالشِّرْكِ .
It is narrated from Muhammad bin Qais bin Makhramah that he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon and said: "The people of ignorance used to return from Arafat before the sun had set, and from Muzdalifah after the sun had risen, to the extent that the sun would appear as if turbans were on the faces of the people. But we will not return from Arafat until the sun has set, and from Muzdalifah we will depart before the sun rises. Our way is contrary to that of the polytheists and idol worshippers."
