Hadith 84

It is narrated from Zir bin Hubaish (may Allah have mercy on him), he says: I presented myself before Safwan bin Assal Al-Muradi (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: "For what purpose have you come?" He says: I said, "For the acquisition of knowledge." So he said: "The angels spread their wings for the seeker of knowledge, being pleased with what he seeks." I said: "After urination and defecation, I have some doubt in my heart regarding wiping over the socks, while you are among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I have come to ask you whether you have heard anything from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this?" Safwan bin Assal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Yes! When we were on a journey or were travelers, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command us not to remove our socks for three days and three nights except in the case of major impurity (janabah), but not after urination, defecation, or sleep (there is no need to remove the socks)."
