Hadith 77

Nafi' and Abdullah bin Dinar narrate that when Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) went to Kufa, Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) was the governor there. He saw that Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) was wiping over his leather socks, so Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) objected to him. Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Ask your father." Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When you put on the leather socks in a state of ablution, then wipe over them." Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: "What if we go to relieve ourselves?" Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Even if you go to relieve yourself, (still wipe over them)."
