Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman narrates from some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that the Prophet ﷺ, in the year of the conquest of Makkah, while on a journey, ordered the people to break their fast and said: “Gain strength to face your enemy.” And the Prophet ﷺ himself kept the fast. Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman says that the companion who narrated to me said: I saw the Prophet ﷺ at the place of ‘Arj pouring water over his head due to intense thirst or heat. It was said to him, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! A group of people among the people have kept the fast when you kept the fast. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached the place of Kuraid, he asked for a cup and drank water from it, so the people also broke their fast.
