أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: "إِذَا رَأْيُتُمُ الْهِلَالَ فَصُومُوا، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدِرُوا لَهُ" . وَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَصُومُ قَبْلَ الْهِلَالِ بِيَوْمٍ، قِيلَ لِإِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ: يَتَقَدَّمُهُ، قَالَ: نَعَمْ. أَخْرَجَهُ مِنَ الْجُزْءِ الثَّانِي مِنَ اخْتِلَافِ الْحَدِيثِ.
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you see the (crescent of) Ramadan, then fast, and when you see the (crescent of) Shawwal, then break the fast. If it is cloudy, then estimate. And Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to fast one day before the crescent of Ramadan. Ibrahim bin Sa’d was asked: Did he do this to welcome (Ramadan)? He said: Yes.
