أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَزْمٍ: أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ، يَقُولُ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى مَرْوَانَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ فَتَذَاكَرْنَا مَا يَكُونُ مِنْهُ الْوُضُوءُ، فَقَالَ مَرْوَانُ: وَمِنْ مَسِّ الذَّكَرِ الْوُضُوءُ، فَقَالَ عُرْوَةُ: مَا عَلِمْتُ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ مَرْوَانُ: أَخْبَرَتْنِي بُسْرَةُ بِنْتُ صَفْوَانَ: أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: "إِذَا مَسَّ أَحَدُكُمْ ذَكَرَهُ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ" .
Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I went to Marwan bin Hakam and we discussed what things make ablution (wudu) necessary. Marwan said: Touching the private part makes ablution necessary. Urwah said: I do not know about this. Marwan said: Basrah bint Safwan (may Allah be pleased with her) informed me that she heard the Prophet ﷺ saying: "When any one of you touches his private part, he should perform ablution."
