أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، قَالَ: اجْتَمَعَ عِيدَانِ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: "مَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَجْلِسَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعَالِيَةِ فَلْيَجْلِسْ فِي غَيْرِ حَرَجٍ" .
It is narrated from Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) that during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, Friday and Eid coincided (on the same day. The Prophet ﷺ said to the people living in the elevated areas around Madinah: "If anyone wishes to stay at home from either of these two without any excuse, he is permitted."
