Abdullah bin Sa’d bin Abi Sarh (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I saw Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) come while Marwan was standing and delivering the sermon. He (Abu Sa’id) prayed two rak’ahs. The police came to make him sit down, but he refused to sit until he had completed the two rak’ahs. When we finished the prayer, we went to him. We said: “O Abu Sa’id! It was close that these people would have wronged you.” Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I cannot leave an action I saw from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for any other reason. I saw the Prophet ﷺ delivering the sermon when a disheveled man entered the mosque. The Prophet ﷺ asked him: ‘Have you prayed (Tahiyyat al-Masjid)?’ He replied: No. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Pray two rak’ahs.’ Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then the Prophet encouraged the people to give charity, so they gave clothes in charity. From those clothes, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave that man two garments. When the next Friday came, that man came again while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the sermon. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: ‘Have you prayed?’ He replied: No. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Pray two rak’ahs.’ Then the Prophet encouraged the people to give charity, so that man also took off one of his garments and threw it as charity. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him and said: ‘Take it back, take it back.’ Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Look at this man. He came last Friday in a disheveled state, so I instructed the people to give charity, and they gave clothes, so I gave him two garments from them. And now he has come this Friday, I instructed the people to give charity, and he has given one of his two garments.’”
