Hadith 265

It is narrated from Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and when he finished the prayer with salam, some of us would gesture with their hands to the right and left, saying, "As-salamu Alaikum, As-salamu Alaikum." Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) gestured with his hand to the right and left (to show the companions). Observing this, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "You gesture with your hands as the tails of mischievous horses move. Is it not sufficient for any of you? Or is it sufficient for you (the narrator is in doubt) that you place your hands on your thighs (in the sitting position), then turn your face to the right and left and say: As-salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah."
