Hadith 253

أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ ابْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُعَاوِيِّ قَالَ: رَآنِي ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَأَنَا أَعْبَثُ بِالْحَصَى، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ نَهَانِي، وَقَالَ: اصْنَعْ كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ، فَقُلْتُ: وَكَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ؟ قَالَ: كَانَ إِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَقَبَضَ أَصَابِعَهُ كُلَّهَا، وَأَشَارَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ الَّتِي تَلِي الْإِبْهَامَ وَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى. أَخْرَجَ الثَّلَاثَةَ الْأَحَادِيثَ مِنْ كِتَابِ اسْتِقْبَالِ الْقِبْلَةِ.
It is narrated from Ali bin Abdur Rahman Al-Mu'awi, he states: "Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw me playing with pebbles. When he finished the prayer, he forbade me and said: Do as the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to do." Ali bin Abdur Rahman says, I asked: "How did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) do?" Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: "When the Prophet (ﷺ) sat in prayer (for Tashahhud), he would place his right palm on his right thigh, then close all his fingers and point with the finger next to the thumb (the index finger), and place his left palm on his left thigh."
