Hadith 1796

أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ أَبُو النَّضْرِ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "لَا أَلْفَيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ يَأْتِيهِ الْأَمْرُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مِمَّا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَوْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ، فَيَقُولُ مَا نَدْرِي، مَا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ اتَّبَعْنَاهُ" .
Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “I should not find any one of you reclining on his couch, and when a command of mine comes to him, whether I have ordered something or forbidden something, he says: ‘We do not know; we will follow only what we find in the Book of Allah.’”
