It is narrated from Sahl bin Abu Hathma (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abdullah bin Sahl and Muhayyisa bin Mas’ud went towards Khaybar. Then both of them separated from each other for their needs, and Abdullah bin Sahl was killed. Then Muhayyisa, the brother of the slain, Abdur Rahman, and Huwayyisa bin Mas’ud came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). They informed him (ﷺ) about the incident of Abdullah bin Sahl’s murder. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “You should take fifty oaths and then you will be entitled to the blood money of your slain or your companion.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! We were not present there at that time.” So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Then the Jews will absolve themselves from you by taking fifty oaths.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! How can we accept the oaths of a disbelieving people?” He thought that the Prophet (ﷺ) paid the blood money from his own side. Basheer bin Yasar said that Sahl said: One of the camels from the blood money kicked me in the enclosure (the camel pen).
