It is narrated from Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him), he and the elders of his tribe informed that Abdullah bin Sahl bin Abi Hathmah and Muhayyisah both went towards Khaybar due to financial difficulties. When both of them separated for their respective needs, Muhayyisah received news that Abdullah bin Sahl had been killed and thrown near a well or a spring. Muhayyisah went to the Jews and said, "By Allah! You people have killed him." They said, "By Allah! We did not kill him." Then Muhayyisah (returned from Khaybar and) came to his people and narrated this incident to them. Then he, his elder brother Huwayyisah, and the brother of the murdered, Abdur Rahman bin Sahl, came to the Prophet ﷺ. Since Muhayyisah was present in Khaybar at that time, he began to speak, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Muhayyisah: "Let the elder speak," meaning the one who is older in age. Then Huwayyisah spoke, and afterwards Muhayyisah spoke. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Either they pay the blood money (diyah) for your companion (Abdullah), or they should be given notice of war." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to them regarding this case, and they replied in writing, "By Allah! We did not kill him." Upon this, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Huwayyisah, Muhayyisah, and Abdur Rahman: "You swear an oath, and then the blood of your companion will be established upon them." They said, "We will not swear an oath." The Prophet ﷺ said: "Then the Jews will swear an oath." They said, "No, they are not Muslims." Finally, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave them one hundred camels from his own side as blood money for Abdullah, until these camels were delivered to their home. Sahl said, "One of those red she-camels kicked me."
