Hadith 1642

أَخْبَرَنَا مَرْوَانُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، قَالَ: لَجَأَ قَوْمٌ إِلَى جَعْشَمٍ فَلَمَّا غَشِيَهُمُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ اسْتَعْصَمُوا بِالسُّجُودِ، فَقَتَلُوا بَعْضَهُمْ، فَبَلَغَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: "أَعْطُوهُمْ نِصْفَ الْعَقْلِ لِصَلَاتِهِمْ" . ثُمَّ قَالَ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ: "أَلَا إِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِنْ كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ مَعَ مُشْرِكٍ" . قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، لِمَ؟ قَالَ: "لَا تَتَرَاءَى نَارَاهُمَا" . أَخْرَجَ الْحَدِيثَيْنِ مِنْ كِتَابِ جِرَاحِ الْعَمْدِ.
It is narrated from Qais bin Abi Hazim, he said: A people sought refuge with the tribe of Jashm. Then, when the Muslims overpowered them, they sought protection through prostration, but the Muslims killed some of them. When this matter reached the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "Because of their prayers, give them half the blood money." Then on this occasion he said: "Beware! I am free from every such Muslim who stays among the polytheists." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What is the reason for this?" He ﷺ said: "Their fires should not be visible together."
