أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَلِيًّا: هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْءٌ سِوَى الْقُرْآنِ؟ فَقَالَ: لَا وَالَّذِي فَلَقَ الْحَبَّةَ وَبَرَأَ النَّسَمَةَ إِلَّا أَنْ يُؤْتَى عَبْدٌ فَهْمًا فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَمَا فِي الصَّحِيفَةِ، قُلْتُ: وَمَا فِي الصَّحِيفَةِ، قَالَ: "الْعَقْلُ وَفَكَاكُ الْأَسِيرِ، وَلَا يُقْتَلُ مُؤْمِنٌ بِكَافِرٍ" .
Abu Juhaifah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that I asked Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), "Do you have anything from the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ besides the Qur'an?" He replied, "By Him who split the grain and created the soul, there is nothing except the understanding which a man is given of the Qur'an, and what is in this scroll." I asked, "What is in the scroll?" He said, "The rulings of blood money, the commands regarding the freeing of captives, and that no believer should be killed in retaliation for a disbeliever."
