أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، وَأَبِي الزِّنَادِ كِلَاهُمَا، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ: أَنَّ رَجُلًا، قَالَ: أَحَدُهُمَا أَحْبَنُ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ: مُقْعَدٌ كَانَ عِنْدَ جِوَارِ سَعْدٍ، فَأَصَابَ امْرَأَةً حَبَلٌ، فَرُمِيَتْ بِهِ، فَسُئِلَ، فَاعْتَرَفَ، فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهِ قَالَ [ ص: 272 ] أَحَدُهُمَا: فَجُلِدَ بِإِثْكَالِ النَّخْلِ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ: بِأُثْكُولِ النَّخْلِ.
It is narrated from Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man said: One of them was big-bellied, and the other said: a cripple (disabled) who lived in the neighborhood of Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), committed adultery with a woman and she became pregnant. The accusation of adultery was placed upon that woman, and when she was questioned, she confessed. Then the Prophet ﷺ gave a ruling regarding her. One of them said: She was beaten with a branch of date-palm (which had a hundred twigs), and the other narrated “Ithkal” instead of “Athkool” (both words have the same meaning).
